Board of Governors
Prendergast - Hilly Fields College is justifiably proud of its history and heritage. The College was founded in 1890 and its mission was expressed in the will of Dr Joseph Prendergast, namely “to provide excellent education for girls in Lewisham”. We adhere to that mission to this day. We have however expanded our vision to include the boys in our co-educational sixth form and we are proud to offer outstanding provision to them.
Dr Prendergast was the Headmaster of Colfe’s school and a member of the Leathersellers’ Company. Our pupils value enormously our close ties to this City Livery Company and all members of our community are conscious of the interest shown by the Company in the continuing success of the College. Four members of the Leathersellers’ Company are Foundation Governors.
The College is a member of the Leathersellers’ Federation of Schools. A single governing body leads both Prendergast - Hilly Fields College and Prendergast -Ladywell Fields College. The governors therefore have collective responsibility for the students in both Colleges.
The pupils of Prendergast - Hilly Fields College benefit from working with excellent staff in an attractive and well-resourced environment. Despite our pride in our history we never forget that we are here to provide a 21st Century education. Our students’ outstanding achievement lays the foundations for the career paths that they will follow in the future. It enables them to enter the wider world equipped to play their roles as full citizens in our complex and diverse society.
