Timings of the school day 
Mon, Tues, Weds, Fri: school starts at 8.50 (gates open 8.45)

Thurs: school starts at 9.15 (gates open 9.10)

School ends at 3.25 every day (rec 10.55-11.15, lunch 12.55-1.40).  

 

We expect 100% attendance.  Y12 students are required to be in school every day for the entire day.  Students with free periods between lessons are expected to use the study rooms for private study.
 

If a student is ill, please ring the Sixth Form Office on the morning of the absence.

Medical and dental appointments are to be made outside school hours where possible.  Students leaving/arriving during the school day for appointments must sign in/out in the Sixth Form Signing In/Out Book (located near the main entrance on both sites). If a student feels ill during the school day, they must first speak to a member of the sixth form team before leaving the school site.

 

Guidance and support for students is available from the Head of Sixth Form (Mr Mealor), form tutors, subject teachers, pastoral heads (Ms O'Brien Y12 and Ms Gayle Y13), Sixth Form administrators (Ms Mason, Ms Ajibulu) and academic mentor (Ms Bailey). If you are experiencing difficulties in any area of your school life you should first consult your form tutor or pastoral head of year. Your pastoral head of year will have oversight of your year group as a whole, academically and pastorally, and will monitor your progress and attendance.

 

The Sixth Form Study Rooms are quiet areas designed for private study during your study periods (Park Site).  Mobile phones must be switched off or on silent, and must not be used without staff permission.  No eating or drinking in the study rooms.  Opening hours Monday to Friday 8.45-4.00 (9.15-4.00 on Thursdays).

 

Academic success in the sixth form depends on the amount of time you are prepared to commit to your studies.  You should engage in independent study, be ready to read around subjects and be prepared to find things out for and by yourself.  You should spend at least 5 hours per subject per week studying outside your lessons.  Minimum effort on your part will result in a low grade. 

 

We pride ourselves on our liberal attitude to Sixth Form dress as we believe clothing is a valuable outlet for self-expression and need not interfere with dedicated study. Sixth Form students are not required to wear school uniform, but must observe the following rules and dress appropriately for a school setting.

• Clothing must be entirely opaque and fully cover the torso
• Tops should have wide straps or sleeves and provide adequate coverage for a school setting
• Shorts are permitted but thighs must be covered
• No offensive logos or slogans
• Footwear must be safe and appropriate for all school activities. Fully enclosed shoes are required in labs and workshops.
• Hats and head coverings are permitted but should not obstruct vision or facial recognition for security purposes. Religious head coverings are exempt from this rule.
• No hoods may be worn on the school site
• For safety, jewellery and accessories should be secure and not pose a risk during school activities
• Students must always wear their lanyard

If you are unsure about an item, please consult a staff member.

Staff members may use their discretion in determining what is appropriate for a school setting.

Students may be asked to amend their clothing if these rules are not adhered to, and in some cases may be sent home to change. Our goal is to maintain a positive learning environment while respecting your individuality. We trust you to make responsible choices that reflect well on yourself and our school community.
